This is a growing collection of resources for guitar and bass players, with lots of tablature
and other learning tools. Unfortunately, forces in the music publishing industry
have launched a campaign of threats and intimidation against major guitar tablature/chord
archives, claiming that these mostly home-made transcriptions (hardly any online tabs
have complete or accurate versions of the songs) violate publishing copyrights for the music.
This presents a serious threat to online freedom of expression, as well as to music
scholarship among millions of people all over the world. Entities such as EMI Music Publishing,
and music industry legal counsel, Harry Fox Agency, have threatened civil suits against
OLGA and other guitar tab archives that don't agree to close down (even though the archives
contain tons of songs by artists who are not represented by these entities).
Some of the sites listed here may be closed due to this situation. I encourage everyone
to support these sites, and to voice their opinion to relevant organizations and individuals.
You may also want to think twice about purchasing music from companies that want to censor scholarly
efforts on the web.
